Alexander Betancourt, MS, MBA, CPO, is the manager of Pediatric Orthotic and Prosthetic Services (POPS) at Shriners Children’s Erie. He received a Master’s Degree in Orthotics and Prosthetics from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Johns Hopkins University.
He is deeply committed to advancing the integration of orthotic and prosthetic care within multidisciplinary medical settings. At Shriners Children’s Erie, he has incorporated O&P services into plagiocephaly/torticollis, limb deficiency, scoliosis, and rehabilitation/multi-disciplinary clinics. He continually challenges the traditional view of O&P providers as technical support, instead advocating for their role as essential clinical partners in patient care.
Alex also contributes to the profession through service on the advisory board for the University of Pittsburgh’s MSPO Program and for Project Perfect World, where he provides O&P care to underserved children in Ecuador. In 2024, he helped establish a new outreach clinic in Panama with Shriners, further extending access to pediatric orthotic and prosthetic services internationally.
